5 Things to Do in Koh Lanta, Thailand

IMG_2280.JPG

I could dedicate five different posts to explaining why Koh Lanta is the greatest place you will ever visit, but instead, I will give you one and urge you to see for yourself. As a solo traveler, this island had everything I wanted - individuality, community, beauty. I would return again and again and again. Take a few days, a week or a month and actually relax.

RENT A MOTORBIKE

Cruise the whole island by motorbike, it takes a couple of hours and the landscape is even more picturesque than expected. From the pristine beaches of Long Beach to the quirky local charm of Old Town to the lively nightlife of Khlong Long, this is the ONLY way to really see everything and have the freedom to go as you please.

VISIT OLD TOWN

The scenery itself is stunning, with an old-world feel, bridges, jungle and sea gyspies to boot. Here you'll find some of the best shopping from hammocks to local curries and spices to candles and incense.

PICNIC ON THE BEACH

Grab a sandwich from Faim de Bouf or the Living Room, hit the 711 for some local Tiger beer, and lay beachside for some snacking in the sun. Long Beach is the best option with shady pine trees if you need the relief, but sweet sunshine and clean sand and water if you don't.

SNORKEL AT BAMBOO AND KATIANG BAY

The visibility is incredible with crystal blue water and sea life for days. Even better, the sand is that pure white goodness you'd expect from the Caribbean. Post up and live your best.

TAKE A DIVE

Some of the best dive sites in the world are located here, including Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. The visibility is out of this world. Don't miss it!

STAY ON LONG BEACH

The beach is the best on the island, and is just lively enough without being loud. I stayed at the Long Beach Chalet and it was incredible. You have your own private bungalow on stilts (major tree house vibes, as seen in the photo below) and there's a restaurant, bar and pool on-site. Did I mention it's on the beach? Just sayin'... You can check out the hotel here.
